A Seamless Metamorphosis

From Smalltalk to Jelly: harnessing AI for next-level social experiences.

As we moved forward, Smalltalk, which started as an innovative phone call platform, evolved in response to valuable user insights. It transformed into Jelly to better adapt, designing more around AI-driven features for enhanced social engagement, shareability, and interactivity.

Jelly isn't a pivot but an evolved iteration of Smalltalk. Just before the launch, we incorporated AI into the platform. Follow-up usability tests emphasized the value of focusing our design efforts on these new AI-driven features and letting users create and share content. Through strategic planning and creative sketches, Jelly took shape.

THE FIGMA MOCKUPS

THE FIGMA MOCKUPS

Figma mockups feature real-time call transcription, producing captions that can be liked and shared. Seconds after a call ends, the users receive an editable title, summary, transcript, and audio. A custom AI-generated image complements the experience as users navigate to a public feed, where they can explore and expand on their recent chats (if public), as well as discover new ones.

We raised $3M, secured high-profile investors like Sam Lessin of Slow Ventures, and built a great product. However, Apple's similar release (announced in June 2024) prompted us to pivot. Like other successful companies before us, we're embracing this crucible moment and quickly adapting. And excited to see where our new direction leads.
